Supporting new systems at a new site

Manufacturing, automotive

Background

An Australian car manufacturer was planning to relocate from multiple tired locations into a single state-of-the-art site. A major challenge of the move was to provide people with a basic level of training in the many new pieces of technology they would use in their day-to-day work.

Driver

The goal of this project was to ensure that people could hit the ground running on Day 1 at the new site. A flexible, staggered approach to staff relocations and site induction training would be needed to ensure that people had the one-on-one attention needed to get up to speed quickly.

What we did

TP3 was engaged to document procedures for using the new office technologies, which included new telephone, fax, email, photocopy and print systems.

The project involved:

  • Testing the systems on-site
  • Documenting each new system's key processes
  • Designing and developing small-group seminar-style awareness sessions that combined information about the features and benefits of the new systems with practical demonstrations
  • Delivering these sessions throughout the site, wherever people were working on the office floor
  • Delivering up to 6 sessions per day over 2 weeks to ensure everyone could learn to use the new office technology, and
  • Developing a Quick Reference Guide that was incorporated into the induction process.

Business impact

By proactively addressing the ‘little things’ that can make relocations challenging, the manufacturer reduced downtime immediately following the move.
