Difficult Situations at Work
Before the course
Pre-course work is an integral part of the program and forms part of the course. To ensure you get the most out of the program please undertake the following tasks:
What are your outcomes for this course? What do you want to learn? What will be different for you when you finish this course? Bring your answers to the course.
List 3 difficult scenarios you have experienced in the workplace. Be prepared to analyse and discuss your examples.
In a journal write the answer to this question: What do you notice about the way you respond to difficult situations?

After 2 weeks
To maximize your learning and development it is recommended that you complete the activities below.
Identify a person either in or outside work with whom you would like to have a better relationship. With this person for the next 2 weeks
Strengthen your ability to be un-insultable. Take 3 minutes everyday for 2 weeks to think about how you refuse to take insult. Notice how you feel about the insult and the words you say to yourself to make you un-insultable.

After 4 weeks
The following activities will support you in your goal to managing difficult situations effectively:
Review the conflict resolution process and use this process in your next difficult situation.
Take time to reflect on how well you are now dealing with difficult situations. Use a journal to write your thoughts about the following questions.
What has changed?
What are you noticing about your emotions?
What have you noticed about your thoughts?
What has changed in the way you respond to these situations?
